My Honest Bask Sunscreen Review

I tried this sunscreen for a few weeks and here’s my Bask sunscreen review.
Would I recommend it?
Maybe, but leaning towards yes if you don’t have sensitive skin. This was a hard one to assign a recommendation. It has some skin irritants that some other cleaner sunscreens don’t have. However, I really liked the texture of this sunscreen and there was no white cast. It felt incredibly moisturizing.

Bask Sunscreen Lotion Review

I have to take a moment to talk about how moisturizing this feels on my skin! I have extremely dry skin so when I find a sunscreen that is this hydrating, I can’t stop talking about it.
It blends in super seamlessly without any white cast at all. This is mainly due to it being a chemical sunscreen. It’s also not oily whatsoever. It’s like applying a thick layer of a water-based moisturizer to your face.
The website says it’s “suncare you actually want to wear”, I absolutely agree with it.
The scent is a bit too strong for my liking. It smelled almost like candy but it’s not a bad smell. I could smell it on my face after applying it.
If you read my other sunscreen posts, it’s no shocker that I prefer mineral sunscreens more because it’s safer for the skin and more effective too. But when I find a chemical sunscreen that feels like silk like this Bask one, I will be using it.
The only downside about this is some of the ingredients. More on this below.
Bask Sunscreen Spray Review

I was impressed by how this spray sunscreen felt on my skin. I felt like spraying a semi-thick layer of water on my skin. I didn’t need to rub it too much into my skin since it absorbed easily.
The sunscreen itself is clear which I don’t see often. The most common ones have a white color. The sunscreen didn’t feel oily at all. It felt like I had no product on.
The only complaint is the cap is difficult to press. I needed to use a lot of pressure to get the product out.
The smell is similar to the Bask sunscreen lotion. Very sweet.
Overall, I enjoyed using this spray sunscreen and it makes applying sunscreen to your entire body so much more conveient.
The Cost
A 3.4oz Bask sunscreen lotion costs $22 and the non-aerosol spray costs $24. They come in a bundle where you can buy both for $40 ($6 savings).
It’s a big tube of sunscreen, so I think that price is reasonable.
Sustainability
Both sunscreen bottles are recyclable! The sunscreen lotion came in a cardboard box. The sunscreen spray comes wrapped in plastic wrap. Besides that, the entire packaging is plastic-free.

Is It Non-Toxic?
Overall, I consider it a relatively safe product to use. However, two ingredients could cause skin irritation but only if you have sensitive skin. These Bask sunscreen ingredients are:
- Phenoxyethanol: This is a preservative to keep bacteria away.
- Propylene Glycol: This is a synthetic ingredient that is used to retain moisture in the product.
Both of these ingredients are considered safe to use but just wanted to point them out just in case you’re someone who wants to avoid them. Personally, these products didn’t irritate my skin.
I also wanted to point out that this is a chemical sunscreen so there are active ingredients like avobenzone, homosalate, and octisalate. There is limited research on whether these ingredients are 100% safe.
Bask suncare is Hawaii Reef Friendly and compliant with Act 104 since it doesn’t have oxybenzone and octinoxate. However, some research has shown that active ingredients in chemical sunscreen may not be reef safe.
That’s why I like to go for mineral sunscreens where zinc oxide is the primary ingredient. But I don’t completely rule out chemical sunscreens because they can create a beautiful texture that mineral sunscreens can’t.
Jasmine’s Final Thoughts
Bask sunscreen is one of my favorite sunscreens to apply. I find myself wanting to reach for it because it feels so nice on my skin. The only three things that are preventing me from giving it 5 stars are the strong fragrance, the potentially skin-irritating ingredients, and the fact that it’s a chemical sunscreen.
But the amazing texture and feel of the sunscreen make up for the other downsides.
To summarize:
- If you have very sensitive skin, maybe avoid this one.
- If you don’t have sensitive skin, I recommend giving this a try but also keep in mind there are other chemical sunscreens without some of these skin irritants. A good example is the Alba Botanica chemical sunscreen.
That’s all for my Bask sunscreen review! If you tried it, what are your thoughts?
