Spoiler: Humble deodorant is now one of my favorite deodorant brands and it’s the one I reach for everyday without thinking. I’ve tried Schmidt’s and Native Deodorant and I prefer the Humble much more.
I’m on a hunt to try all kinds of clean deodorants and I’ll keep you posted if I find any other deodorant brands I love more than Humble!

My Honest Humble Deodorant Review
About
Humble Brands has been around since 2015 and was started by Jeff Shardell in his home kitchen. Now, his team has grown to close to 40 people. The brand not only sells deodorant but also has a line of natural soaps, and lip balms.
The official brand name of Humble is called Humble Brands so I’ll be referring to that throughout this review.
Items I Got From Humble
These are the products I got from Humble Brands. For this post, I’ll just be reviewing the deodorants. I might do a separate Humble soap review later!
Packaging
Many brands these days – even non-toxic and natural ones – don’t prioritize using eco-friendly packaging. And that frustrates me! We end up with all this useless plastic that gets thrown away right away.
So I was so glad to see that Humble Brands uses water-activated paper tape made of corn starch glue. They also use plant-based ink. Bar soaps were packed in small paper boxes. The deodorant stick also has the option for paper packaging.
These items are all biodegradable and compostable!
The only thing in my package that had plastic was one plastic deodorant stick. But I do want to applaud them for being as plastic-free as possible.
Is Humble Deodorant safe?
Greenwashing exists more than we think so I don’t like to trust the brand’s word for it until I do the research myself. I checked the original formula key ingredients and their formula without baking soda. Here’s what I found:
With Baking Soda (Bergamot & Ginger):
Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides (MCT), Zea Mays (Corn) Starch**, Sodium Bicarbonate, Cera Alba (Beeswax)
Essential Oils & Botanicals for Fragrance:
Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot BF) Peel Oil, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil
Naturally Occurring in Essential Oils:
D-Limonene, Linalool, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol
**Non-GMO
Without Baking Soda (Mountain Lavender):
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (MCT), Zea Mays (Corn) Starch**, Magnesium Hydroxide, Wild-Harvested Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax
Essential Oils + Botanicals for Fragrance:
Lavandula Officinalis (Lavender) Oil
Naturally Occurring in Essential Oils:
Linalool, D-Limonene
**Non-GMO
I love it when I see simple ingredient lists like this. They only have 4 main ingredients in all their deodorants. I’m happy to see that all these ingredients are safe to use and gentle on the skin!
Let’s do a breakdown of each main ingredient:
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (MCT): Derived from coconut oil and glycerin. It’s able to moisturize and replenish skin. Overall, a very safe ingredient to use in natural skincare products.
- Zea Mays (Corn) Starch: Derived from corn and it’s used to mattify.
- Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda): If you’re not allergic to it, it’s safe to use. Baking-soda-free deodorants exist for those who are sensitive to baking soda.
- Magnesium Hydroxide: This is essentially salt and it’s used to replace baking soda in deodorant. It’s better for sensitive skin because it’s less likely to cause irritation.
- Cera Alba (Beeswax): Beeswax is a safe ingredient and it’s highly unlikely to cause irritation. It’s really good for moisturizing as well.
- Wild-Harvested Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax: This is commonly used in skin care products and is highly unlikely to cause irritation.
What Ingredients Are Not In Humble Deodorant?
They clearly state that they never use:
- Aluminum
- Talc
- Parabens
- SLS
- Synthetic Fragrance Or Color
When I looked at the ingredients, it was easy to tell that they don’t include these nasty toxins inside their products. Many conventional deodorant brands actually these bad chemicals, believe it or not!
EWG Rating
EWG is a site that rates tons of consumer products and analyzes their toxicity level. They rate on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the best and 10 being the worst. The best rating to receive from them is an “EWG-verified” label.
I do take EWG with a grain of salt because sometimes, they lack the most up-to-date information on the product formulas or they sometimes exaggerate the risk of chemicals.
But with that said, I do like to take a look at a product’s EWG rating just to see what they think.
I looked at their EWG rating and they all received a “1” which means they have close to the best rating!
Humble Deodorant Review
Humble Deodorant Bergamot & Ginger
I got the Bergamot & Ginger deodorant in the original formula with a plastic-free container. This was my first time using a plastic-free deodorant so I always had the impression that these containers were hard to use.
I’ll be honest, it doesn’t work as easily as a plastic deodorant stick. But for the environment, I’m willing to deal with the slight inconvenience.
To get the product out, you need to push the bottom upwards. Then, you need to push it back down to close it. The cap can easily come off so I keep the piece of tape on there to hold it in place.
Okay, enough about the packaging. Let’s talk about how well the product works.
Scent-wise, I really love it. The bergamot scent is really strong and the ginger just adds a tiny bit of spice to it. Overall, it has a very citrusy smell. If you love citrus, I bet you’ll like the scent of this one.
The texture of the deodorant is quite soft. So when I apply it on my underarms, I feel the need to apply it very gently. If I put too much pressure, the surface starts to get deformed.
I was impressed with how smoothly the product glided on. It didn’t tug on my skin. Even though the deodorant was soft, there was barely any residue left over. I usually apply two or three swipes.
I usually apply just once a day in the morning and it lasts me the whole day. It’s very long lasting.
Customer Reviews:
This is what one customer said about this product:
“I have tried numerous deodorants and I am so glad I finally found one that works for me! First of all, I really like that it has few ingredients. The bergamot and ginger scent smells amazing!!! What I like about it is that the smell doesn’t necessarily change when you sweat and stays.“
Humble Deodorant Moroccan Rose
This is the Moroccan rose deodorant in the original formula. As much as I prefer plastic-free packaging, I decided to try one in plastic packaging to show you what the difference is.
Off the bat, I’ve got to say I love the rose scent even more than the Bergamot and Ginger. That’s probably because I really love floral scents. The scent is very subtle but very fresh and sweet.
The top of the deodorant is rounded so I found it easier to apply than the other one I shared above. Like I said above, the texture also felt slightly harder than the other one. So I felt like I didn’t need to be as gentle when applying it on.
The product glided on very smoothly and no residue was left over after I applied a few swipes.
As imagined, the deodorant was easier to use since you’re able to twist the piece at the bottom to get more product. Also, the cap is shut tight so it doesn’t fall off easily.
Customer Reviews:
This is what one customer said about this product:
“Love this scent, and I’m picky about rose scents in general. I love how well balanced and non overpowering this scent is. Quickly becoming one of my favorites! Every deodorant I’ve purchased I love!!! Humbly a fan for life”
Other Humble Products
Humble also has soaps! I’ll save my review of them for a different time. But just by giving it a quick sniff, I didn’t love the two scents I chose.
I got the lemongrass & sage and patchouli & copal. Both had a very earthy smell to it. I normally like that but it just didn’t stand out to me like the bergamot & ginger and Moroccan rose.
Pros
- Clean Ingredients: Only has minimal and safe ingredients in their deodorants. Is aluminum free and has no talc, parabens, SLS, synthetic fragrance, or artificial colors
- Plastic-Free Option: Many of their deodorants come in a plastic-free container. The packaging they use to ship also is entirely plastic-free.
- Amazing Scents: The two scents I tried were some of the best deodorant scents I’ve tried.
- 1% for the planet: They’re a member of 1% for the planet, which means they donate 1% of their profits to a social organization.
Cons
- Soft Texture: The texture is softer than most other deodorants I’ve tried. But it doesn’t leave much residue so I’m okay with it.
So, Is Humble Deodorant Worth It?
Personally, I think Humble Deodorant is totally worth it. I feel really safe using Humble because they have the smallest ingredient list out of all the deodorants I’ve seen. Each ingredient is not toxic to your skin.
I normally don’t sweat much except at the gym or during hot weather seasons. So applying once per day is more than enough for me. It’s easy to re-apply if you’re someone who tends to sweat more.
I’ve also never used antiperspirants before the deodorant worked for me right away. But if you’ve been using antiperspirants, I know it can take some time for your body to adjust to using a natural deodorant.
So don’t worry if it’s not working for you right away – your body might just need a bit of adjusting to do.
If you want an aluminum free deodorant that has really good ingredients, I think it’s worth the hype.
But like with any product, every person’s body may react to it differently. I tend to not have sensitive skin so I don’t get rashes or irritations all that often. But if you do, I highly recommend the no baking soda formula. Also, test it out on a small area of your skin before applying more!
FAQs
Does it stain clothes?
I didn’t find any staining on my clothes. If you do notice any staining, check to see if you might be applying too much deodorant at once.
Does it have baking soda?
They have baking soda in its original formula. They also have ones without it in the “vegan & sensitive skin” line.
I was lucky to not have any irritation when using deodorants with it. I haven’t tried any from the other line but I’ve heard the results are very similar.
Does it have aluminum?
They’re all aluminum-free deodorants – yay!
Is it vegan and cruelty free?
All their deodorants are cruelty free. Only their “vegan & sensitive skin” line of deodorants is vegan. Their original deodorant formula has beeswax in it so it’s not considered vegan.
