My Top Pick: Jones Road The Brow Pencil
I love everything about this eyebrow pencil. It’s small so I can easily carry it with me when traveling. I like this because it’s not extremely pigmented so I can draw lots of light strokes to mimic the appearance of my brow hairs.
If you’ve read my other clean beauty reviews, you know I love the most natural look possible.
The only downside is it doesn’t come with a spoolie brush but I carry one around anyway so I don’t mind not having it.
Best Organic Eyebrow Pencils
1. Jones Road The Brow Pencil
Best For: Making Ultra Thin Strokes, Not Too Pigmented
Ingredients: Shea Butter
My Review: This eyebrow pencil is what I recommend to everyone. I’m able to make really fine hair-like strokes with it so it comes out looking really natural. It’s also not very pigmented so I can easily control how much product I want to apply. This pencil is really tiny but lasts me a super long time so I always bring it when I travel.
Customer Reviews:
Love this product! Very easy to use and gives my brows natural look.
This eye brow pencil is perfect! Smooth application without tugging – just like I was hoping for 🩷 filled my aging brows without looking like makeup!!
2. Thrive Causemetics Infinity Brow Liner
Best For: Vegan & Cruelty-Free, Thin Liner
Ingredients: Shea butter, Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides
My Review: I like that this eyebrow liner is ultra-thin so it can make really fine strokes. It gives me a lot of control over how much product I want on my brows. It glides on smoothly and stays for a very long time. It’s waterproof so the staying power is even longer than most eyebrow products I’ve tried.
Customer Reviews:
I am very hard on my make up and even most “waterproof” doesn’t last long this one is different. It goes on so easily and stays for at least two days.
By far the best eyeliner goes on so easily and lasts throughout the day. Sometimes I need to touch up the corners of my eyes if I am going out later in the day.
3. Honest Beauty Natural Eyebrow Pencil
Best For: Smooth Applicator, Natural Looking
Ingredients: Jojoba Seed Oil, Beeswax
My Review: Most eyebrow pencils don’t come with a spoolie at the end of the brush. So I was surprised to find out that this one did! I like how creamy and waxy the product is because it glides on really smoothly. Doesn’t tug at my skin at all. It didn’t come with a sharpener though and needs to be sharpened often. So if you don’t already have one at home, it can be a bit of a hassle.
Customer Reviews:
Best eyebrow pencil I have found. Looks super natural and stays all day.
The color matches great and the brush is great for smoothing. Very easily to apply.
4. PYT Beauty Defining Brow Pencil
Best For: Thick Applicator, Full Brows
Ingredients: Vitamin E, Copernicia Cerifera Wax
My Review: This one is a good eyebrow liner if you want to get fuller and thicker brows. The applicator is thicker so each stroke I apply is more prominent. For drawing the ends of my eyebrows, I actually prefer this Pyt eyebrow liner over other thinner eyebrow liners. It’s able to create the shape I want more precisely.
Customer Reviews:
This pencil is designed well. Allows me to draw a good line on both my brows. Gives me the control I need to shape them nicely.
Very professional looking and easy to apply.
5. Alima Pure Clean Eyebrow Pencil
Best For: Long Lasting, Blendable
Ingredients: Jojoba Oil, Candelilla Wax
My Review: Another good option for an eyebrow pencil! It blends in smoothly and is blendable. It does need to be sharpened quite frequently in order to stay sharp. I’m impressed at how long the product stays on. It lasts the whole day but it also comes off easily with makeup remover.
Customer Reviews:
I like this eyebrow pencil but it needs to be sharpened quite often and doesn’t last too long esp if you are wearing it every day.
This has been my favorite brow pencil forever now! It blends out very nicely, looks natural, and lasts all day.
6. Kosas Brow Pop Dual-Action Defining Pencil
Best For: Thin Strokes, Filling Sparse Areas
Ingredients: Castor Oil, Panthenol Pro Vitamin B5, Jojoba Seed Oil
My Review: I get the hype about the product! The slanted shape of the product makes it super easy for me to apply crisp lines and create feathery lines. This eyebrow pencil is also really good for filling in sparse areas since it’s thin and easy to control.
Customer Reviews:
I love this product. I do not have to spend a lot of time on my brows in the morning after having used it. I fill them in and go.
Absolutely love how small and precise the tip is and it makes my brows looks so natural and not clunky.
How To Use An Eyebrow Pencil
If you’re going for a super natural look, I like to draw on light, fine strokes to really mimic the appearance of your eyebrow hairs. After applying some hair strokes, go in with a spoolie to brush out the harsh lines. I also always make sure to sharpen my pencil so I can get the finest tip every time. For a more dramatic makeup look, draw on darker lines!
Who should use an eyebrow pencil?
If you want your brows to look fuller and more defined, then you should use an eyebrow pencil! Even if you’re going for a very natural look, using an eyebrow pencil can enhance the look of your brows without looking like you have makeup on.
Why organic eyebrow pencils are better than non-organic eyebrow pencils?
Why even buy organic eyebrow pencils when it’s likely more expensive? Here are my thoughts:
- It’s better for your skin: Natural and organic ingredients used in eyebrow pencils are much less likely to have ingredients that will cause skin irritation.
- It’s better for manufacturers: People putting the product together will not be exposed to the toxins.
- It’s better for the environment: If you’re using conventional eyebrow pencils, those toxins can wash down the drain and potentially harm aquatic life. Using organic ingredients is less likely to affect them.
What color pencil should I use for my eyebrows?
The best rule of thumb of to pick a color that matches the exact color of your hair. The exception is if you have dark black hair, a dark brown eyebrow pencil color may look less harsh. I have black hair and when I try using pure black eyebrow pencil, it looks terrible.
Toxic Ingredients To Avoid In Eyebrow Pencils
Some ingredients that I make sure are never in my eyebrow pencils are these:
- Parabens: This is the most common type of preservative found in beauty products. It’s a chemical that can cause hormonal imbalance and reproductive issues.
- Formaldehyde: Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and can cause eye and skin irritation.
- Heavy Metals: They can cause lung cancer and other respiratory diseases.
- PEGS: PEGs contain contaminants like ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane which can cause respiratory irritation.
- Carbon Black: Carbon black is created from coal tar. It’s a common colorant found in cosmetics like mascaras and eyebrow pencils to darken the color.
- Benzalkonium chloride (BAK): This is a preservative and can easily cause eye irritation.
- Aluminum Powder: This can cause organ system toxicity.
Healthy Ingredients To Look For In Eyebrow Pencils
- Organic Coconut Oil: It’s rich in fatty acids so it moisturizes the skin really well. I have dry skin so I love this ingredient! This is a comodogenic ingredient so I recommend avoiding it if your skin is prone to acne breakouts.
- Vitamin E: This ingredient works amazingly for nourishing your brow hair.
- Shea Butter: Shea butter is great for moisturizing the skin. I love it so much that I wrote an entire post about organic shea butter here.
- Castor Seed Oil: This can soothe skin irritation and moisturize the skin.
- Beeswax: Beeswax is antimicrobial and has skin-softening properties. Beeswax is not a vegan ingredient, so if you want to opt for a vegan alternative, look for candelilla wax or carnauba wax.
- Plant-Based Pigments: Instead of artificial dyes look for eyebrow pencils made with plant-based colors.
And that’s a wrap on the best organic brow pencils! Have you made up your mind about which one to get?
