No. The scent was way too strong and artificial smelling. So strong to the point it gave me a headache. It also left my skin feeling dry afterward. The ingredients aren’t terrible and are overall clean, but I couldn’t get myself to like the product itself.

About Native

Native was created by Moiz Ali when he found out antiperspirants had bad aluminum and other bad ingredients in them. Now, they have a product lineup of many personal care products like deodorants, shampoo, sunscreen, and more. More about Native:

  • Native was founded in San Francisco.
  • Native products are made in the USA.
  • They have mostly recyclable plastic packaging but they also have a few plastic-free options.
  • Native is a 1% for the planet partner which means they give 1% of their Plastic Free deodorant revenue to environmental nonprofits.

Native Body Wash Review

I smelled almost every single bottle at Target before I settled on one. I was so surprised to find that these scents were all way too overpowering and had an artificial smell. It smelled stronger than some of my perfumes.

I chose the scent that had the faintest smell which was the Lilac and White Tea. The scent was still heavier than I liked.

The same day I bought it, I tried it in the shower. When I poured it out, there was too much product coming out at once. The packaging made it hard to control the amount coming out.

The texture was thick but was also a bit runny. I was impressed by the lather it produced when I rubbed my hands together.

After coming out of the shower and drying off, I started to see tiny flakes on my arms. I have dry skin to begin with but it made my skin even more dry. This wasn’t very moisturizing.

The Cost

An 18 fl oz bottle costs $9. That’s not a bad price at all considering it’s a clean body wash.

Sustainability

It is packaged in a #2 recyclable plastic bottle. It can be easily recycled.

Is It Non-Toxic?

Looking at Native body wash ingredients, it looks clean to me. They don’t have a very long ingredient list too which is what I like to see. But if I had to nitpick, I would point out these ingredients:

  • Cocamidopropyl Betaine: This is used to create that thick lather in shampoo and is a cleansing agent. The problem with it is it can produce impurities during the manufacturing process. Those impurities are allergens and can cause skin and eye irritation.
  • Fragrance: They have undisclosed fragrance. They do say it’s phthalate and paraben-free. As I always say, I prefer to see what goes into the ingredients. The brand does have an unscented option so it’s good for sensitive skin.

Is Native body wash good for sensitive skin?

No, I personally don’t think the scented Native body wash is good for sensitive skin. It’s overly scented and they don’t disclose fragrance ingredients. If you want to try it but have sensitive skin, go for the unscented one.

Is Native greenwashing?

I wouldn’t say Native is greenwashing but I do think they can be more transparent about their fragrance ingredients. Besides the fragrance, they do have clean ingredients that I’m happy with.

Jasmine’s Final Thoughts

Not a buy. I like that the ingredients are clean. However, they may be lacking some other ingredients that better moisturize the skin since it caused my skin to become dry. The super strong scents were an immediate turn-off for me. I wouldn’t recommend this.

That’s all for my Native body wash review! What are your thoughts?
