Farm Raised Candles are my favorite brand of non toxic wax melts because they’re made in small batches, made with 100% pure soy wax (no paraffin wax mixed in), and use phthalate-free essential oils.
They also offer some of the largest variety of scents that smell so good. One of their most popular scents is the Strawberry Shortcake.
All their natural wax melts have a relatively good scent throw considering it being a 100% soy wax melt.
And since pure soy wax is softer than paraffin, it will melt faster. I personally don’t mind it melting faster because I know it’s not made with any bad chemicals.
2. Fontana Essentials Wax Melts

Fontana Essentials is a very popular candle brand. They’re known for being one of the only candle brands with the Made Safe certification.
Fontana Candle’s most popular scent is the Cinnamon Orange Clove and it smells so good. This scent is also perfect for fall.
Each package comes with 3 wax pucks and each can burn for 20 to 25 hours.
They use a mix of coconut oil and beeswax in their wax so their wax melts have a pretty good scent throw without being too overpowering.
The scent doesn’t last as long as many traditional candles but it’s due to being made of natural ingredients.
3. Aire Candle Co

I love these pure beeswax melts from the Etsy shop Aire Candle Co because they’re made with 100% organic pure beeswax and 100% pure essential oils.
The essential oils are phthalate-free and the whole wax melt is non-toxic.
Each safe wax melt comes in a small size so the burn time is around 10 hours each. And each package has 8 melts so there’s a total of 80 hours of burn time per pack.
Plus, the packaging is 100% recyclable and honestly would make for a really nice organic gift idea!
They’re also all homemade nontoxic wax melts. I especially love beeswax because it’s one of the best waxes for purifying indoor air quality.
4. Happy Wax Scented Soy Wax Melts

Happy Wax Scented Soy Wax Melts are our favorite “fun” wax melts (but still non toxic!). They’re made in the shape of happy bears with tons of scents.
The best part is it’s made with paraffin-free natural soy wax and phthalate-free essential oils. They’re all handmade in North Carolina in the USA.
Each pack comes in 2oz and has 60 hours of fragrance. Since each wax melt is small, you can mix two different melts to create a new scent!
From my experience, some scents have a lighter scent throw than others. It’s best to use these in a medium-sized room. If the room is too small, it might be overpowering for some people. Too big and the scent will not be as apparent.
Overall, these Happy Wax melts are great if you want non toxic soy wax melts with fun shapes and decent scent throw.

I love these coconut wax tarts because they’re handmade in small batches, made without dyes, and have some of the longest burn times. Coconut wax is known to have an amazing scent throw and burns slowly.
The shapes of these wax tarts are also so beautiful. It’s made into a flower shape with nice details.

These wax melts by The Candle Chemist are some of the best eco friendly soy wax melts. They’re made with natural soy wax and fragrance oils that are phthalate-free.
The best part is it’s packaged in biodegradable parchment paper and a hemp string. The outer packaging is made with recycled padded mailers. So it’s plastic-free!
I love that each candle wax melt is handmade in small batches in Oregon.
These wax cubes come in traditional square cubes so they don’t have unique shapes like some other melts. But the great thing is the scents are very long-lasting. They also smell exactly like how it’s described in the description.

Happy Wax is a great option – they have some nice plug-in wax melters with a warm glow light. What I love about this wax melter is it saves a ton of space. No need for extra wires or extra countertop space.

Toxic Ingredients In Wax Melts
- Paraffin Wax: Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum (sounds scary!) and contains known carcinogens such as benzene. Since it’s a petroleum by-product, it means it releases harmful chemicals and VOCs and will pollute your indoor air quality. Cheaper brands tend to use paraffin wax because it’s cheaper to produce.
- Wax Blends: If you ever see the word “soy wax blend”, stay away! This oftentimes means the candles use a mix of soy and paraffin wax. This is totally greenwashing.
- Synthetic Fragrances: Synthetic fragrances have two problems. The most concerning one is it often contains bad chemicals like phthalates and formaldehyde. Phthalates are endocrine disruptors so they disrupt the hormone system and cause reproductive issues.
Which Wax is Healthiest?
These are the three types of waxes that are healthiest to use! Make sure it’s either 100% made of these waxes and doesn’t contain any form of paraffin.
- Soy Wax: It’s derived from soybean oil and does not release any toxic byproducts. It’s also a biodegradable and renewable material.
- Coconut wax: It’s made from coconut oil and is also a renewable and biodegradable material.
- Beeswax: Beeswax is produced by bees and also does not release any harmful chemicals.
