Aera Diffuser Review: Here Are My Thoughts

I was frustrated by how fast the scent of typical air fresheners and reed diffusers wears out. I wanted something that could last longer. So when I found out about the Aera diffuser and how one fragrance can last up to 800 hours, it got me really curious.
So today, I’m sharing my honest Aera diffuser review. When I’m reviewing home fragrances, I look for a few things:
- how well the product works
- ensure the ingredients are non-toxic and clean
- whether the product is worth the price

My Honest Aera Diffuser Review
Items I Got From Aera
These are the products I got from Aera.
Aera has three types of diffusers. The bigger one is the Aera Diffuser. The smaller one is a wall plug-in air freshener called Aera Mini Diffuser. They also have a diffuser specially designed for the car called Aera Go.
They also have a ton of fragrances to choose from. They also frequently have collaborations with other well-known clean fragrance brands.

Aera Packaging
I thought the unboxing experience was great. All the products were laid out nicely for me to see.
I just didn’t like how much plastic there was. The fragrance, diffuser device, and plug wires were all wrapped in plastic. Honestly, it wasn’t needed at all.
Other than that, the rest was wrapped in paper packaging that’s recyclable.

If you’re on a zero waste, low waste, or sustainable journey, you can try reusing the plastic bags they give you.
Is Aera Fragrance safe?
Greenwashing is a more frequent occurrence than we might think. To be sure, I don’t place much trust in a brand’s claims until I’ve done my own research. So, I decided to go through their list of ingredients, and I’ll share what I found.

The one ingredient I’m concerned about is Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT). It’s a toluene-based ingredient and can have the potential to be a human carcinogen.
However, there are some Aera fragrances that don’t have BHT. I would go for the fragrances that don’t have BHT to be safe.
I got the lavender & bergamot scent which unfortunately does contain BHT. I will stop using the scent and get another one that doesn’t have BHT.
Regardless, I’m really happy and impressed that Aera listed all their fragrances. Many companies, even ones that claim to be “clean”, don’t often disclose all their fragrance ingredients.
Aera Diffuser Review

Aera Diffuser Device
The main features of the Aera diffuser are:
- Press buttons on the Aera diffuser to increase or decrease fragrance intensity
- Press button to get the fragrance capsule out
- On/Off button on the back of the diffuser
- App controls the scent intensity and when to release the scent
- Electricity powered
How does Aera diffuser work? You first turn it on. Then, place the fragrance capsule inside. Press it down by a quarter inch and it should automatically slide down. Press the up or down button to adjust the fragrance level.
I found it quite simple and intuitive to use. The only difficult part was there was no sound when I pressed the on button. It was hard to tell if it was on or off. Also, the wire that plugs into the device came loose very easily. But if you don’t move it, it should be fine.
Once you turn turn on your Aera and plug in your fragrance, you’ll hear a quiet white nose sound. Some people in the reviews say they don’t like it but I’m not bothered by it at all. I actually kind of like the sound.
Scents
I only tried the Lavender & Bergamot scent and even though I love the scent, it does contain BHT. So I’ve decided I’m going to choose other Aera scents that don’t have BHT.
Each fragrance capsule supposedly lasts 800 hours which means it can last over 5 months if you diffuse scent for 5 hours a day. I haven’t tested it for that long yet but I’ll come back to update this post once I do!
I think the part I love the most about the Aera diffuser is its ability to diffuse fragrance to a very large space. I placed my Aera in my living room and I could smell it all over my living room and even the kitchen. I’m impressed.
Aera Diffuser App
The app is my second favorite part of the Aera device. I’m able to turn the device on and off just from my phone. I can even set a timer of how long to diffuse the scent. Perfect for people like me who tend to forget to turn off things!

Pricing
At the time of writing this, the Aera diffuser is $199 plus $60-65 for a fragrance capsule. Aera definitely is considered a luxury diffuser.
But considering that one fragrance capsule lasts 800 hours, it can be potentially more cost-effective than buying tons of candles or other air fresheners that need to be constantly replaced.
If you subscribe to the fragrances, they also give you 10% off.
Aera Refund Policy
Aera has a generous refund policy that lets you return within 60 days. If the item arrives damaged, they will provide a replacement.
Customer Reviews
Currently, the Aera Diffuser has a 4.8/5 rating with over 3,000 reviews.s The overwhelming majority were positive reviews. Some negative reviews talked about how the device was loud or that they had trouble connecting it with their apps.
Here’s what some customers are saying:
We have a 4800 sf house and needed something that would fill it. That meant placing the diffuser in a highly visible location. So happy with the beautiful design that lets us leave it out in the open. Love the scent!
I hesitated because I wasn’t sure if the diffuser could handle the open areas in my home. Yes, it can! The diffuser is amazing. It’s truly transformed our home. We have four pets and the diffuser has eliminated the odors.
I was honestly skeptical that this tiny device would work in our large open floor plan with high ceilings. I was proven wrong within the first two hours of using Aera.
Pros of Aera Diffuser
- Large Coverage: Aera is able to diffuse scent to a large space. So if you have a big room or home, this is a huge pro.
- Minimal Design: The device has a sleek and minimal design that will match many different types of interior decor styles.
- Amazing Scent: I’ve only tried the Lavender & Bergamot.
- Long Lasting Scent: Each fragrance capsule lasts many months so you don’t need to replace it often.
Cons of Aera Diffuser
- Expensive: It does cost $199 for the Aera diffuser. It’s a hefty upfront cost but may be more cost effective in the long term.
- Noise: When the fragrance goes in, the device makes a small noise. Some people may not like this.
- Wires: The wire doesn’t attach well to the device. It comes off easily.

So, Is Aera Diffuser Worth It?
After trying it, I think Aera is worth it for sure if you want a reliable device to make your smell good with little maintenance. My only concern is the BHT ingredient in some of their fragrances. So I would pay extra attention to choose fragrances without BHT.
However, I would not recommend the Aera diffuser to anyone with allergens or sensitivity to fragrances. The ingredients are clean for the most part but there can be some that might trigger sensitivities for some people.
I highly recommend looking over the ingredient list to see if you may be sensitive to them before purchasing.
